Back home

After a long four days in the truck with three shedding dogs, we finally reached our home in Loxahatchee. It feels so good to be home. I wish I understood our passion for our home.

Louis spent a month remodeling. It turned out quite lovely. He even built me the library he promised when we moved in 16 years ago!

The other evening, we notified that the owl family had also returned. Now everyone is here.

The dogs are happy to be home and combing our wooded acre for anything that moves. Yesterday while we were trimming one of our hundred or so saw palmettos, Louis found a little black snake nestled into a furry niche trying to keep warm.

This really is a cool place!

But our return is bitter sweet. We lost both our moms last year to cancer. I was able to spend the last few months at my mom's side. I was with her when she took her last earthly breath. Ironically, both our siblings also passed during Louis' hiatus in California. It is so strange how things happen. No sooner did their lives come to a close, when a door opened for us to pay our debt with what our loss had provided. An uncomfortable silver lining in the cloud of the past four years of upheaval.

Life's journey cannot be planned to the second because life happens unexpectedly.

Last week I lost my mom. Well, she's not actually lost, she did pass away which is PC for died. I'm lonely for her as she was my best friend. I will miss her too much.
It's raining here in South Florida. One of our torrential downpours through which you can barely see across the road. It seems fitting to be writing about my mom as tritely tears fall from 'heaven' pounding against her home.
I wish I knew if there was something other than just this, but to my knowledge, there isn't. So to come back to my theme, let's make this a better world for ourselves and our children.
